Walking in the Sauerland

The Sauerland is known for its wide range of walking trails. Admire the dense forests, green meadows and idyllic half-timbered villages. The area has several shorter and longer walking routes, so you can take in all its beautiful scenery. Along the way, you will come across plenty of benches and resting spots where you can relax among the trees or in a beautiful park.

Winterberg (0 km)

Visit Winterberg to enjoy the fresh mountain air and impressive panoramic views. Here you will also find one of the highest mountains in the Sauerland, the Kahler Asten. In the old town centre, you can admire many half-timbered houses. You will also find the German Winter Sports Museum here. With permanent and temporary exhibitions on the history, the equipment and the sporting heroes of winter sports.

Willingen Skywalk (17 km)

At 665 metres, the Willingen Skywalk is the longest suspension bridge in Germany. The bridge hangs almost 100 metres above the valley and so offers a magnificent view over the wooded slopes and Willingen's famous ski jump. A visit to the suspension bridge combines well with a walk around Willingen. Several walking routes pass the impressive suspension bridge.

Hallenberg (17 km)

The charming half-timbered town of Hallenberg is beautifully set in the Rothaar Mountains. In the historic centre, ringed by mountains, you can admire the remarkable old half-timbered houses. Be sure to visit the small, intimate ice museum in the historic ice house as well. In the information centre, you will also find a museum about the town's history.

Rothaarkamm am Grenzweg (19 km)

Pay a visit to the Rothaarkamm am Grenzweg nature reserve. This is an impressive natural area, characterised by mountainous woodland. The area offers plenty of walking opportunities and a network of footpaths for nature lovers. Among all this natural beauty, you will find various artistic monuments and cultural attractions. Sauerland Visitor Mine (21 km)

Discover this old mine and its museum. For the full experience, you can go underground aboard an old electric mine train. The train takes you through a 1.5-kilometre-long tunnel for a guided tour of the mines. During this impressive outing, you will get a good sense of life in the mines.

Willingen Glass Factory (19 km)

Admire the magnificent surroundings of this water-rich town in the Ruhr valley. Olsberg is surrounded by more than 50 mountains over 500 metres high.
