Camp Westerbork

In the middle of Drenthe lies a place with a history. Here, the lives of more than a hundred thousand Dutch Jews, Sinti and Roma are remembered. The story of Camp Westerbork is told on the spot. This forms the core of the tour, which takes you along tracks, reconstructions and monuments. The tour starts at the barrier on the camp site. In the museum, you will learn all about the history of Camp Westerbork. But we also organise many activities, such as eyewitness lectures, theatre performances and exhibitions. The last Sunday of each month is reserved for a lecture by an eyewitness: someone who talks about their own experiences in World War II.

Museum Village Orvelte

Orvelte is one of the most beautiful villages in the Netherlands (according to readers of the ANWB Kampioen). Orvelte is a centuries-old Esdorp that originated in the 10th century. The monumental farms and the old cobbled streets give the village a unique atmosphere. Visit Orvelte and discover the story of the #OERDORP of Drenthe.

Jan Kruis Museum

Jan Kruis was best known for the comic ‘Jan, Jans en de Kinderen’. In this comic, he managed to characterise a time image of an average Dutch family life in lively lines and with a very personal language. Who doesn't know the “jeweetwel-kater” and “hoi pipeloi”? In this museum you can see that, in addition to being a comics and advertising artist, Jan was also a versatile visual artist. He also painted and drew beautiful portraits and illustrations of, among others, Woutertje Pieterse.

Prison Museum

The Prison Museum tells stories about the consequences of deviant behaviour. Stories about impoverishment, crime and punishment. Stories that give you a different perspective on freedom, that awaken your curiosity and make you think. We challenge you to form an opinion, leaving you free to discover what you think. This way, after a visit to the Prison Museum, you always leave a little richer than you came.

Hunebedcentrum

The Hunebedcentrum is an archaeological museum in the Drenthe village of Borger, a stone's throw from the largest dolmen in the Netherlands. The museum has a museum shop, a museum café and a knowledge centre. On the site of the Hunebedcentrum is a Prehistoric Park, including a reconstruction of a Stone Age house and a boulder garden.

Eeserveen Sculpture Garden

If you are cycling through Eeserveen or if you are in the area, make sure to stop by Keramiektuinen Galerie Harwi. Here you can view the most beautiful gardens and statues in an oasis of tranquillity. Particularly special is the Shona art, which are sculptures of the Shona tribe from Zimbabwe. Hungry? There is a lunchroom where you can enjoy hot and cold lunch dishes.

Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen

Wildlands, or Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen in full, is an animal park in Emmen. The park covers an area of 24 hectares and is divided into four areas. Jungola centres on the jungle, in Serenga focuses on savanna and desert and Nortica is all about the polar regions. These themed areas contain characteristic animal species for the region that is depicted, but also plants, buildings, hospitality, shops, entertainment and attractions that match the theme. The fourth themed area is the indoor playground Animazia, which also contains some animal enclosures.
