Three countries, one mountain

The extreme south of the Netherlands is formed by the province of Limburg, which lies between neighbouring countries Belgium and Germany. At the southernmost tip, the city of Vaals is just five kilometres from Aachen, Germany. Most Dutch people live in flat polders, sometimes even below sea level, so we are proud of our 323-metre high Vaalserberg. This ‘berg’ (mountain) is therefore a popular destination for day trips. The lookout tower at the top offers an unobstructed view of three countries: Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. The ten tallest mountains in the Netherlands are all located in the province of Limburg (if we don't count the 877-metre high Mount Scenery on the island of Saba in the Caribbean Netherlands).

American Graveyard

More than 8,000 soldiers are buried at this solely American cemetery in the Netherlands. The majority were killed during the liberation of the South-Eastern Netherlands in WWII and the advance through Germany. A thirty-metre tall tower offers a wide view of the cemetery. The territory of the cemetery has been made available to the government of the United States of America for perpetual use.
