It’s one of France’s most popular gastronomic routes. The area is perfectly suited to exploring by bike, as you’ll see from the many beautiful cycle routes through the dense forests and along the network of canals.
Maison de la manufacture d’Armes Blanches (0 km)
This richly stocked museum tells you all about the history of the little village of Klingenthal. Between 1730 and 1962, bladed weapons were made in this village. The collection is genuinely impressive and is presented in a highly informative way. The museum also has a lift, so it’s easily accessible for people with reduced mobility.
Obernai (6 km)
Just 6 kilometres from the hotel lies the lovely, charming little town of Obernai. You can take a leisurely stroll through the historic centre, visit the Gothic church tower, admire the traditional half-timbered houses and relax on the atmospheric market square. Dotted around the centre, you’ll find a variety of cosy places to eat and drink, perfect for relaxing and soaking up the charming surroundings. From the tourist information office, a little electric train runs through the village so you can explore the town. The train can take you up to the magnificent viewpoint at the Monument de l’ADEIF. This monument, commemorating the lives lost during the Second World War, stands atop a hill and offers a beautiful view over the village.
Chateaux d’Ottrott (3 km)
Between Klingenthal and Ottrott, two impressive medieval castles stand amid dense woodland. The two castles, Rathsamhausen and Lutzelbourg, stand just a few metres apart and are well maintained. The castles have limited opening hours, but you can easily pair your visit with a walk through the forests of Alsace.
Wine festival in Obernai (6 km)
Every year in mid-August, a six-day wine festival takes place where you can taste delicious local wines. You can meet the winemakers, who come to present their wines at this summer celebration. The festival promises a wonderfully convivial atmosphere, always accompanied by festive events such as dancing and folklore.
Mont Sainte-Odile (8 km)
At an altitude of 763 metres, near Obernai, you’ll find the convent of Mont Sainte-Odile. This place of pilgrimage is dedicated to Saint Odile, the patron saint of Alsace. During your visit, you can admire the convent church and four chapels. Take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful garden and enjoy a cup of coffee on the terrace in the inner courtyard. From the convent, you’ll enjoy a sweeping view over the surrounding countryside. Several walking routes also start at the convent, so you can easily extend your visit. It’s rightly considered one of Alsace’s top spots.
Le centre européen du résistant déporté (19 km)
The CERD is a powerful memorial site, set on the grounds of the former Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp. The 40-metre-high monument stands as a symbol of all victims of deportation and is regarded as a mausoleum for the thousands of unidentified people who lost their lives in the concentration camp. Besides the monument, you can also visit the camp itself.
Alsace-Moselle Memorial (21 km)
Visit the Alsace-Moselle Memorial for a glimpse into the history of this area. The museum gives visitors particular insight into the political and historical development of these regions during the Second World War. Experience this turbulent history through documents, films, posters and personal accounts, displayed in a remarkable setting.
Strasbourg (38 km)
Strasbourg is a city to discover and experience. You can reach this magnificent city by bus, which leaves from the stop right in front of the hotel. Wander through the idyllic La Petite France, with its lovely canals and half-timbered houses. Admire the imposing Gothic cathedral, sample local specialities in cosy bistros and enjoy a glass of Alsace wine. Throughout the year, the city buzzes with culture, markets and festivals.
