The many ships that have perished as a result of this are the fodder for legends and stories. The ascent of the Loreley is a tourist activity. There is a lookout point on the rock and at its foot is a statue of the nymph. The Loreley is part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Koblenz

One of the oldest cities, more than 2000 years old. Known by the Rhine and Moselle that come together at the Deutsche Eck.

Marksburg

The Marksburg is a castle near the Braubach plate in Rhineland-Palts. It is the only medieval castle in the Mittelrhein that has never been destroyed. The Mittelrhein region has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2002.

The castle was built around 1117 to protect the town of Braubach. The first mention of the castle dates back to 1231. In 1283 Count Eberhard van Katzenelnbogen bought the castle and in the 14th and 15th centuries the castle was constantly rebuilt. In 1479 the territories of the Count of Katzenelnbogen fell to the Count of Hesse.

In Napoleonic times, the Marksburg was used as a prison. In 1815 it came into the possession of the Duchy of Nassau. After the German war in 1866, the Duchy of Nassau became part of Prussia.

Finally in 1900 it was sold to the German Castle Association for the symbolic amount of 1000 Goldmark. This association had been founded a year earlier as a private initiative to preserve castles in Germany for posterity. Since 1931, the Marksburg has been the headquarters of this organization.

In March 1945, the castle was heavily damaged by American artillery.

Boppard

Boppard is located on the upper reaches of the Middle Rhine. North of the city stretches the largest bend of the Rhine, the Bopparder Hamm. There are extensive vineyards here. From the viewpoint Vierseenblick you have a view over this bend. Because the rocks obscure parts of the Rhine, it seems as if one is looking at four separate lakes instead of one and the same river. The viewpoint can be reached from Boppard with a chairlift. Another nearby viewpoint, the Gideonseck, offers a view of the large bend in the Rhine at Boppard. The urban forest with an area of 43.6 km² is the second largest forest in Rhineland Palts.

Gedeonseck

From here you also have a beautiful view over Boppard, Filsen and Osterspai! From here it's not far to the chair lift or downhill! This descent is worth it because you continuously have a great view of everything.

Oberwesel, Ochsenturm

Oberwesel with its city wall and towers is also called the tower city on the Rhine.

Burg Rheinfels

Rheinfels Castle rises above St. Goar on the left bank of the Rhine. She belonged to the family of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen. The preserved building complex now houses an economy with a hotel. It promises great views from the keep and curtain wall, leads to the underground mine galleries and the largest cantilevered vaulted cellar in Europe.
