Walking in the Sauerland

The Sauerland is known for its wide range of walking trails. Admire the dense forests, green meadows and idyllic half-timbered villages. The area has several shorter and longer walking routes, so you can take in all its beautiful scenery. Westheim Classic Car Museum (16 km)

In Westheim, you can visit the Classic Car Museum to admire historical farming technology such as vehicles, machinery and equipment. You can book a guided tour to learn more about rural life in the past. The museum has limited opening hours.

Diemelsee (22 km)

The nature park around the Diemelsee reservoir is a true paradise for nature lovers. Then opt for a relaxing trip on the sightseeing boat across the lake.

Altenbüren Museum (21 km)

Olsberg (29 km)

Admire the magnificent surroundings of this water-rich town in the Ruhr valley. Olsberg is surrounded by more than 50 mountains over 500 metres high. The immediate area is therefore ideal for lovely walks among the mountains. Here you will find beautiful, wooded landscapes with walking and cycle paths.

Wewelsburg (22 km)

Wewelsburg is a castle, but it was also the headquarters of the SS. From 1939 to 1943, most of the construction work was carried out by forced labourers. These were often political prisoners and prisoners of war. In the spring of 1940, the Niederhagen concentration camp was also opened right next to the castle. The castle has since been restored as a war memorial with a museum and youth hostel. It is more than worth a visit.

Schloss Arolsen (31 km)

Visit this 18th-century Baroque palace. In 1858, the future Dutch Queen Emma was born here, so it plays an important role in the history of our royal family. The palace is regularly open to the public, so take your time admiring the magnificent halls of this impressive residence.

Warsteiner Brewery (33 km)

Beer lovers, take note. The visitor centre of this brewery is unique in Europe and invites you on a fascinating journey. A modern visitor train takes you through the entire world of beer brewing. You will discover everything about the brewery and its various beer specialities.

Willingen Skywalk (31 km)

At 665 metres, the Willingen Skywalk is the longest suspension bridge in Germany. The bridge hangs almost 100 metres above the valley and so offers a magnificent view over the wooded slopes and Willingen\'s famous ski jump. A visit to the suspension bridge combines well with a walk around Willingen. Several walking routes pass the impressive suspension bridge.

Curioseum WIllingen (35 km)

The Curioseum in Willingen lives up to its name. It is not just any museum, but a collection of all sorts of astonishing objects, transformed into an impressive exhibition. Nothing is too strange here; a fantastic place to be amazed and entertained. Besides its many bizarre objects, the Curioseum also has a fine collection of historic vehicles.

Paderborn (36 km)

The atmospheric cathedral city of Paderborn is highly recommended. The town centre is set around Paderborn Cathedral. Here you will find a variety of clothing and souvenir shops, and other charming little shops where you can buy all sorts of knick-knacks. The centre comprises a mix of very beautiful, restored historic buildings. The combination of the various architectural styles creates a special and distinctive effect. What is more, you will find the better and larger shops in Paderborn.

Sauerland Visitor Mine (35 km)

Discover this old mine and its museum. For the full experience, you can go underground aboard an old electric mine train. The train takes you through a 1.5-kilometre-long tunnel for a guided tour of the mines. During this impressive outing, you will get a good sense of life in the mines.
